Siem Reap Restaurants

The food in Cambodia is really good and Siem Reap is no exception. Every year there are more and more restaurants in town: new ones open every week, and even if most of them run out of business in a matter of months, many other resist, and add themselves to the rich list of choices for every traveler, from backpackers to VIP. Every corner of the world is now represented, so if you fel like italian pizza, or argentinian steak or traditional Khmer food, you will find what you are looking for. Further most of the hotels and guesthouses have their own restaurant: really simple and mostly family-run in the case of guesthouses, more sophisticated in the hotels, that sometimes offer a luxurious environment for your lunch or diner. Even some of the restaurants at 10 USD a meal serve their food in an amazing location.

What we wanna do is to present several possibilities to eat in Siem Reap. We'll start from local food, the Khmer food, then other asian foods, then we will consider the international restaurants. As you will Dead Fish Restaurantsee, the prices are really cheap for western standards.

Khmer restaurants

Amok - This restaurant takes its name from the traditional Khmer dish. Not far from the market, good food, nice decorations.

Khmer Kitchen Restaurant - Located close to the bar street, it's one of the best choices to taste authentic Khmer food. The decoration is nice, you can eat outside if you want. The prices are really cheap, the food delicious, try their curries, you won't be disappointed.

Dead Fish Tower - the look of this restaurants is absolutely unique and it's not the only specialty they have. For first, the space has been designed on 3D, and not with the usual 2D: the result is, the dinner space is divided in several floor, each one has a slightly different height from another. The food is delicious, whatever you order, Khmer food, a steak, or a combination of Thai teasers. You can choose if you wanna sit on a couch, on pillows or chairs. Wherever you will sit, it looks amazing. They often perform a traditional Khmer dance show during dinner, or a Dj set, or live music. Highly recommended. It has guest rooms too.

Samapheap Restaurant - If you like the seafood, made in the traditional Khmer way, this is the right spot for you. Samapheap is a garden restaurant, really well known for its quality, even for big groups: avoid the normal lunch and dinner time and come a little later.

Bayon Restaurant - Even when it's really full, the service is really fast. They will deliver you the authentic taste and aroma of Khmer food.

Thai, Japanese and other Asian Restaurants

Sawasdee - This restaurant serves delicious thai food. On the menu you will find a great variety of curries, and delicious fish cookies among many other dishes.

Soup Dragon - This is a vietnamese restaurant, in 3 levels. At the ground floor, delicious asian breakfast are served, included vietnamese rice noodles. The proper restaurant is at the first floor, and has an enormous choice of asian and international dishes. A trendy bar at the top floor complete their offer.

International Restaurants

Ecstatic Pizza - This place is located close to the old market. They promise to serve you authentic pizza with ganja (marijuana), but only if you specifically ask for it. Take care, as eating this kind of pizza has a much  much stronger effect than a joint. Btw, pizzas are pretty good even without!

Red Piano - This is one of the old classic restaurant of Siem Reap and one of the most popular. You can sit on the ground floor, or on the roof terrace, that offer a nice panorama of the center of Siem Reap (we are close to the old market - Psar Chaa). The assortment of food is huge, khmer, thai and international, so even if you are with people with different taste than your, everybody will find its favorite.

Blue Pampkin - the food is really good, but it's the location itslef that worth a visit. Enjoy this trendy environement while you eat on a bed seating.
